Spring is officially here! We just got back from an impulsive 8 hour round-trip road trip to our favorite drift track, US Air Raceway in Shawano, WI. The opening weekend (4/22-23) of ClubFR drifting signals the start of Midwest drifting and we had to be there. It was rainy on Saturday and our visit on Sunday was overcast and winter coat brisk...snowpants were seen on the youngest attendees...blanket wraps kept the young adults cozy. None of the elements took away from the fun! Midwest is a tough crowd and camping tents were adorning the hill and people were spectating or walking the pits to chat with friends. Club FR celebrates 20 years this year and what a great tradition that we hope continues 20 more.
The big question...what's the track like now?
Very friendly staff. The main ticket building felt 'in progress' but with potential, due to the starkness of the walls and stacked boxes of merch t-shirts waiting to be displayed. It was lacking a friendly parrot and kiddo snacks lining the counter, but maybe we are biased ;)
Concession were tasty and affordable. Burgers, chips, sodas available.
The grounds were clean and maintained, and again there was a feeling of 'in progress' with improvements with some of the outbuildings being worked on. On track, a medley of tire barriers was prevalent, instead of the dominance of hay and cement k-rails.
It is nice watching the track grow into its new management.
We will be definitely be back for drifting and hopefully more media and spectating...with warmer days on the way we can't wait! See you at DD91 in May ;)
